Birds singing. I opened my eyes and steered them over the enormous trees. They were swaying as though greeting me into their elysian fields. It smelled great- warm, earthy and reassuring. Like a tree stump that is creating new life. I inhaled a lungful, filling my system with the ambrosial nectar. A chuckle like the chimes from a windcatcher drifted into my ears, and I looked beside me. "The woods are magical, right?" Nola said.

It slammed into the man’s chest, sliding all the way to the hilt. Bile rose in my stomach. “Come. There are more fundamental lessons for you to learn about our ways.” Morrigan wandered off through the trees, leaving the men pinned to the trees. Her black dress fluttered on a fantom breeze as she disappeared around a tree. I rushed to catch up only to find her entering a clearing. “Look around and tell me what you see, Eileen.” Trees spiraled out from this clearing. As I looked, I realized the spirals were each a unique species of tree! Elm, Oak, Ash, Hawthorn, Elderberry, and tall cedars. “Sacred trees.”

At first, I only heard the wind blowing through the trees but then somewhere in the background, I heard singing. I followed the singing taking me even deeper into the forest. I walked through a tick-tree line until suddenly I was in an open space. Candles were lit at different woodcarvings in the trees. I walked closer to one of the carvings and saw it was a carving of a wolf. It took me a moment to realize that the singing had stopped and that I was surrounded by utter silence. For some reason, I did not feel scared though. I walked around the open space studying the different sculptures in the trees when a voice cut through the silence.

I felt so refreshed and stronger than the last time I came and the garden seemed to have brightened more than before. After I finished singing, I volunteered to help the butterflies clean the fountain. A real gemstone fountain. Of course, they didn't allow me. They still didn't reveal their true forms but they placed a barrier around the tree, blocking me from stepping out. That's how I ended up back on the swing and singing whatever comes to mind. The tree was enjoying my music so it wasn't a waste.

Tall Winding trees surrounded the pound, and my breath caught in my throat at the sight. I stepped forward and suddenly there was a rustling in the trees. Both boys flanked me and as I looked closer I realized, every tree was full of blackbirds. They clung to the branches, their gleaming eyes watching us carefully. Then it began, beautiful and haunting, like nothing I had ever heard before. Goosebumps covered my skin as the haunting melodies wound and danced around each other, creepy, dark and beautiful. Blackbirds don't sing this way naturally. They never could, this was magic, deep plunging sort of magic. Eventually, the singing stopped and suddenly everything around us was dead quiet agai

I wrapped my arms around Winnie’s waist, bracing myself for the impact of the power I knew was coming. ​Winnie began to sing. ​It was not a song of the North, and it was not a song of the Deep.
