Anna reached out and tapped the audio wave icon on the data slate. The speaker crackled violently with background static, followed by the harsh rhythmic sound of rain beating against a metal roof. Then came a voice. Gone was the arrogant polished tone of the Southern Alpha who had spent years lounging in marble halls. In its place was a ragged breathless desperation, the sound of a hunted animal backing into a corner.

The book is HOT, and Theo’s voice… yeah, it makes for an enjoyable two-and-a-half-hour flight. I love how he changes his voice when speaking for each Alpha. Hana told me they’ve done the narration for the rest of the series, and I can’t wait to listen.

The house is quiet. Too quiet. Everyone is gathered around the dining table, books spread everywhere like a paper explosion. But the only sound is the soft rustle of pages as I open the book I found in my room, the one Liam gave me a few days ago and I somehow forgot existed. The prophecy book. My hands shake as I flip to the page that tugged at me the moment I touched it. The page that feels like it’s been waiting for me. The ink glows faintly, silver and blue, like it recognizes me. I swallow hard and read aloud.

Meg’s voice screams over the walkie. I hold my breath. The Audi slams through the rusted guardrail and skids toward the cliff’s edge. The tires screech, grinding against rock and mud. Then— Silence. The headlights cut through the mist like searchlights. The car doesn’t fall. It stops. Right at the edge. Half of it is dangling. The other half was gripping desperately to the cliffside. Its front bumper twitches. The rear end sags dangerously. “Damn it,” I whisper. Meg’s voice comes through again, lower now. “He’s still alive.”
