He smiles back and sits down the couch, spreading his arms wider over the back pillow. “I thought you’re busy with your woman.” I sit back on my desk. Parker is my polar opposite. He’s a relationship type of guy and he’s dating a restaurateur Emily Bates for almost a year. She makes Parker happier than ever. It’s sick to see someone who falls in love and looks at his girlfriend like a priceless artifact. “About that,” he seems hesitant, but he continues, “I need your help.” “What kind of help?” I quickly ask. “Um, Mom and Dad don’t have any idea about this.” He rubs his hands against his jeans then rubs the back of his neck.

She seemed so recognizable yet everytime Samson tried to uncover the curtain over her identity, he would miss. “Did you ever live in the redwoods?” Samson finally asked. Parker froze, before recomposing herself. “I did… a long time ago.” She answered. Samson leaned forwards. “Why did you move away?” Samson asked, still trying to figure out where he knew her from. Parker looked at him and took a shaky breath. “I lost my pack.” She explained bluntly, trying to hide as much from him as possible.

I say, then I rise and move around the desk to sit on the corner. “I think I’ll take a little trip. I know there is nothing there but … something is telling me I have to see where they were. It may be the only thing that’ll settle me. Some time in the wild will also do me some good,” he says, as if he’s asking for permission. Maybe he wants me to tell him no, tell him it’s a worthless endeavor. But Parker has more than let Hannah and I know what his time away meant to him. Parker lets out a groan and like the seams finally crack he explodes “And what happened after? She ran to fucking Santo Paulo and now there is no us. We lost her” The kitchen is filled with tension and his labored breathing is enough for me to know that this is clearly affecting him too. He places wine glasses on the counter and opens the fridge. “Merlot?”

Jamie said. "How do you even know all these things?" Amanda asked. Parker had quite forgotten that she was around. He had been so occupied by the news he totally forgot his girlfriend was there with him. "That's... Well, that's a good thing. Seeing that her father was an evil man, I'm not quite surprised." Parker said. "So what's the situation on ground now?" Amanda asked. "Right now, the police are there trying to see what they can find but I bet the only thing they'll find is bones and skin fragments." Jamie said.

I stared at Raven for a long time, not quite sure I’d heard her correctly. Well, that’s not quite true. I knew I’d heard her. What I didn’t know was whether or not I’d understood her. “The Parker pack was here, in our forest, last night, because of you?” I asked her, once I regained the ability to speak. Raven nodded. “Yeah. They were here because of my… situation.” Again, I could only stare at her as I processed. “Your situation?”
