The Black Wolf
The strange man looked up from behind the counter as though he’d been expecting me.
“You knew I’d come back, didn’t you?” I asked, placing the obsidian mirror on the counter.
“I didn’t know,” he replied, his voice calm, “I just felt it.”
He tapped a finger gently against the mirror. “So? Did you use it? Did you look?”
“I did,” I said slowly. “His reflection didn’t change, but it was off. Slower, very subtle. Someone else wouldn’t have caught it, but I did.”
He lifted the mirror carefully, turning it in his hands like a jeweler inspecting a rare gem.
