Chasing the Fading Light

Chasing the Fading Light

"Oh. Um, thanks?" "I'm serious," she said, like I'd sounded doubtful, which I suppose I had. "You've got this whole quiet, mysterious thing going on. It's very intriguing." "I just don't talk much, I guess." "See, that's exactly what a mysterious person would say." The girl on her left grinned around a mouthful of fries, unbothered by her own joke, and stuck her hand out across the table. "I'm Zanele. This is Priya, obviously, and that's Beth."

Belonging to the Demon King

Belonging to the Demon King

Blushing she clamped her mouth shut. "You are amusing halfling." He smiled, giving her a little bow before turning incorporeal once more and disappearing. Once alone she eased the tray off her lap and got off the bed. Digging through her bags she pulled out her iPod and headphones. Climbing back into the bed she situated the tray beside her and pulled the books over her lap. Munching down on French toast and plugging in her headphones she opened History of the Demonarchies first...and nearly spit out her food.

The Mysterious Disappearance

The Mysterious Disappearance

Emma's heart was racing as they emerged onto the street, the bright sunlight a stark contrast to the dimly lit station. They dodged pedestrians and cars, their pursuers hot on their heels. Emma's breath was coming in short gasps as they ran, her eyes scanning the street for any sign of escape. And then, out of the corner of her eye, she saw a black van pull up to the curb. The side door slid open, and a figure leaned out. "In," the figure said, beckoning to them. Emma hesitated for a split second before grabbing Julian's arm and pulling him towards the van. They leapt inside just as the door closed behind them, the van speeding away from the curb before they even hit the floor.

MAY

MAY

Maryam, still on her school uniform, tugged on May's sweater as they passed a bookstore. "What is it now?" May asked. "Buy me that book." Maryam pointed at the yellow book sitting on the shelf just outside the bookstore. "Why?" May queried. "Isn't that Half of a Yellow Sun written by Chimamanda Adichie?" Iby asked. "I want it," Maryam whined. "Mtcheww. Leave me oh. I’m here to only buy oranges." May said, walking towards where the oranges were sold. Maryam began crying. Iby turned to her. "Are you seriously crying because you want your mom to buy you a book?"

maramartha
May represents a large number of women that are constantly abused in their homes but still manage to smile and live through it. I hope women in similar situations reading this book get some of the happiness that May gets.
The Dream Elixir
This book was beautifully written and I enjoyed it so very much. It made me feel so many things and I was on the edge of my seat for most of the while because I really wanted the best for May. I felt so much anger towards Edric, uncertainty towards Tega, and love for Edric. definitely insightful

Shattered Silence

Shattered Silence

They were wrong their whole lives - and never once realized it and it would not matter anyway Now, at 23, nine years later, here I am again - curled up in a quiet corner of Evan’s library with a smutty book in my hand - trying to make sense of this strange, second feeling of home that’s slowly taking over the first. And honestly? I think it might win. It ridiculous if I am being honest! All over one kiss, but...

Vivian's Awakening

Vivian's Awakening

Quickly, he looked back to Jordyn as he got back to his feet somewhat slowly. Jordyn was now levitating in the air, her hair was a fire-engine red,Her eyes were pitch black, just like in the forest. “They’re coming for me.” Vivian’s voice was familiar to him, but it was obvious that it was strange to everyone else in the room.

Vanished, Like His Loyalty

Vanished, Like His Loyalty

Freezing winters on her bike, dragging herself to work even with a fever—it had wrecked her health, and she was still paying for it. Now, after everything—the abortion, the lies—she was thinner than ever. Standing in the cold wind, she felt like a brittle tree ready to snap. Inside, the kitchen table was cluttered with half-prepped ingredients Scott had left behind. The maid stepped forward, nervous. "What should I make for dinner?" "Please make some cream soup," Vanessa replied. "Yes, ma'am. But Mr. Fabel started some of your favorites. Should I finish them?" "No." Vanessa's tone turned icy. "Throw it all out. It makes me sick just looking at it."

The Widow’s Blood Debt

The Widow’s Blood Debt

POV: Julian Vane-Moretti The night was supposed to be a period at the end of a very long sentence. But as I stood in the quiet of my private study in the Nexus, the city humming like a distant hive outside my window, I realized that for an Auditor, there is no such thing as a finished book. There is only a ledger that hasn't been turned to the next page yet.

DON'T MESS WITH THE HEIRESS

DON'T MESS WITH THE HEIRESS

I dialed a number that I had memorized a time ago when I was twenty years old and still thought my father was a good man. The line clicked then there was silence. Then a voice spoke it sounded like rocks moving in a bag. "Hannah I thought you were dead or married or maybe both " the voice said. "I need the book, Cassian " I said, getting straight to the point. "Not the one that the people I owe money to have the one with the accounts from 1998 the Black Wing accounts from 1998." The person, on the phone laughed it was a sound. "That is an ask, little Vane, the Black Wing accounts from 1998. That book is what keeps some people out of jail. Why would I give it to you the Black Wing accounts fr

Those Who See the Comments Vanish

Those Who See the Comments Vanish

I looked up after sending the message. The comments in the air were blurring, like static on a television with a bad signal. "What's happening? I can't see…" "The story fell apart, so we're being forcefully removed!" "No! I haven't finished reading yet—" The last comment disappeared before it finished scrolling across my vision. All the lights in the room were switched on. I had no choice but to squint against the blinding glare. The music on the huge screen stopped and returned to the karaoke's usual interface.
