†He snapped his fingers. The stadium lights shifted, converging on the balcony. From the shadows behind the seating tiers, the black-robed figures rose in unison. She saw their faces not the faces of holy men, but of the Vampire Council, their mouths masked by silver filters, their hands holding vials of the violet fluid that had fueled the "repurposed" patient. Dominic Vermont stepped out from behind Rusty, his robes stained with the dust of the collapsed archives. He didn't look at his daughter; he looked at the floor, his posture one of complete, utter submission.
