Clouds stretched wide above us, uneven shapes drifting slowly. “What do you see?” Mrs. Toria asked. “A dragon,” someone said. “A bird.” “A face.” Karl squinted. “…That one looks like you.” I turned. “Which one?” “That one,” she said, pointing vaguely. “That’s not helpful.” I glared at her. Ernest glanced up. “…I see it.”

My vision blurred and the world tilted slowly but I forced myself to keep crawling. Finally, I reached the edge of the road. A pair of headlights appeared in a distance, a car and it was driving fast. With the last bit of strength I had left in me, I raise my arm. The bright light blinded me and my body gave out, the world faded once again and darkness swallowed me whole. ┈◆┈┈◇┈┈•⊰⊱•┈◆┈◇┈┈

My heart beats too fast, then too slow. I haven’t eaten in almost twenty four hours. My blood sugar must be in the toilet. I reach a crosswalk. The traffic lights are just blurry lights in my eyes. Is it green? I think it’s green. I force my head to turn left, then right. My vision is blurry as thick sheets of rain block my view, turning the street into a gray, watery smear. It looks empty. I don’t see any cars, and the city feels quiet except for the steady drumming of the storm.

My vision blurred at the edges, the garden lights swirling into hazy streaks. “No…” I mumbled against the cloth, my voice muffled and fading. “Please… my babies…” The world tilted. My knees buckled. Everything went black.

Slowly, the details of the room began to materialize, revealing a sparse and sterile environment. White walls surrounded me, devoid of any personal touch or warmth. The air felt sterile and cold, intensifying the sense of isolation I was experiencing.
