Rose’s POV The first thing I realized was that the world didn't smell like dirt anymore. Everything was white. Not a pure, heavenly white, but a thick, dizzying blur that swirled in front of my eyes like milk poured into water. I tried to blink, but my eyelids felt like they had been glued shut with sand. My head throbbed a heavy, rhythmic pulse that made me want to sink back into the blackness. But then, the blur settled.

Everything went blurry, like the world had cracked in half. And then— Darkness.

Instead, all it did was blur my head and make me lighter, looser, and less careful. The world had a tilt to it. The room glowed with warm shadows, music pounding from a speaker in the corner, bass vibrating through the floor. Laughter came in bursts, too loud and too close. Every face around me blurred in and out of focus, but I could feel all their eyes on me as they were waiting, watching, ready to see how far I’d go.

I can't say a word, and everything is a blur before I know it all I can see is black. ***
