The World's A Little Blurry Novels & Stories

There are days when I wonder what the world around me looks like, what the prey I eat looks like, I even wonder what my mate looks like but I'll never ask because I know that although I am blind and most likely odd looking I will never stand alone. For I am blinded but not deaf, I am blinded but not alone, I am blinded and I will always have a place within this world.

ARIANA My eyes fluttered open slowly, the world around me swimming into focus with disorienting slowness. Everything was blurry at first—a haze of light and shadow that made no sense. I blinked rapidly, trying to clear the fog from my vision. As the room finally came into view, my heart sank.

I felt the sensation of wind being blown into my eyes, making my vision go slightly blurry. I blinked a few times to try and get my eyes to focus. I squeezed Dmitri’s hand as my sight cleared. Everything looked like it belonged in one of those cheesy dream sequences you see in soap dramas. Everything was a little too bright, and a bit hazy, like a fog had filled the room. Even the people looked the same, but different.

I close and open my eyes a few times, trying to force myself to stay awake and focus on the fight. However, the dark black spots are slowly creeping through my vision, making the blurry figures even worse. I don’t know how long they were fighting for and as they were both really blurry, I tried to move back as one of the blurry figures started walking back toward me, not knowing which one won.

They know how to spot people that are heartbroken and just give them the best. "Thank y-you," I whispered through the air, hoping that the waiter who attended me heard what I just said. Oh my poor eyesight. I rubbed my eyes a couple of times but it is still blurry. "Why are they too many? They become double," I stopped and raised my brows when it added one more. "They are now t-triple." What the fuck is this? The lights are too bright that it blinded my eyesight. I closed my eyes and slowly stood up. I swayed my hands through the air to know if there is someone beside me. 'There is no one.'

My vision blurred at the edges, but I clenched my teeth, fighting to remain upright, to hold onto the clarity that was rapidly slipping away. Yet, as the world continued its unruly spin, a deeper worry burgeoned within me: something was terribly wrong.

I grabbed my car keys and walked out into the garage. I didn't know where I was driving to but I just drove. I wanted to stop thinking for a second and that was when my vision became blurry. I slowed down and recollected myself. I opted to get some rest and I turned back and headed home. I was at full speed because I wanted to get back quickly. My head hurt a lot and I needed a cure for it. My eyes felt very heavy and they began to close. What was wrong with me? By the time I opened my eyes, I was headed for a truck that was horning loudly. I stepped harshly on the brake pad and in other to avoid hitting the truck, I turned rigorously and ended up blacking out at the last moment.

The blade of grass was a miracle. It was a tiny, vibrant spear of green piercing through the dull, grey salt of the Draft. I stared at it until my eyes blurred. It was the first real thing we had made—not a digital trick, not a golden illusion, but a living piece of a new world.

“Very slowly. Don’t rush it. Just take your time.” I listen to his advice, nod, and do exactly that. I don’t rush or start blinking rapidly. I just slowly open my eyes wider. Nothing. I blink. Still nothing. Panic rises in my chest. I blink again. That’s when the darkness finally gives way to something blurry and hazy. My chest rises sharply as a shaky breath leaves my lips. Tears instantly gather in my eyes, making everything even more unclear. “I...” My voice cracks. “I...”

7 years ago "Doctor what happened to her?" I heard my mother's soft voice. "She has Retinitis Pigmentosa." I heard, what I assumed, the doctor "W-What is that?" My mother's trembling voice asked as I felt her hand grip mine. Something was wrong with me. Everything was black. I know for sure my eyes were open but I can't seem to see anything. I heard someone sigh. "M-mom, I cannot. I cannot see." I said as I tried to sit up but someone pushed me down. "Please settle down, honey while I talk to the doctor." My mother said.
