“You’re drunk, Ariana, and that…man doesn’t look like a doctor. You can’t trust a guy like him. How do you know he isn’t some kind of thug hired to kidnap you?” Maybe he was genuinely confused and concerned. Maybe he was just being stubborn. But I couldn’t understand Mr. Huxley’s insistence that Connor was some kind of criminal. “Stay here with me until your friend arrives,” Tex insisted. “What was her name, again? Allison? Classy name. My office phone rang bringing me out of my self-dwelling and I reached to answer it. “Mr. Conner, I thought you might like to know that Miss Thomas handed in her badge. She apologized for inconveniencing me today and left.” Connie told me and I felt myself losing control once again. “Did she say where she is going?” I asked Connie and the line was silent on the other end, so I then say, “Connie.” “Sir, she said she was going to CT Incorporated. She said that Mr. Peterson contacted her to come in for an interview.” Connie says and I can hear the plastic of my phone beginning to crack with the grip I have on it.

I turned to find Nora, one of the younger caretakers from the western quarter, sprinting toward me with worry etched into every line of her face. “My Luna,” she gasped, bowing with one hand pressed to her chest. “Please—you must come. It’s Thomas.” Thomas was her mate. A soft-spoken warrior, built like a tree but gentler than sunlight. I’d seen him help carry elder wolves after feasts and volunteer to train the pups on weekends. “What happened?” I asked, already moving.

Carmen folds her arms across her chest, her little jaw tight, her eyes narrowing as she studies the space where Owen had been moments ago. “Connor… he’s not really nice, is he?” Carmen asks, her voice low so the teacher won’t hear, though she doesn’t bother to hide the suspicion in her tone. Connor shake his head slowly, glancing down at the pile of toys he left behind. A small stuffed bear, a brightly coloured puzzle, a box of candy neatly wrapped in plastic, all of it innocent enough to the adults around them. But they have learned to look beyond appearances. “Nope,” Connor says quietly, leaning back in his little chair.

Thomas shook his sleeves and said, “A person cannot escape from the problems they caused upon themselves. I won’t cure this disease.” Very determined. Thomas walked away, browsing over random stuff on the shelf. He showed no interest in what the two brothers were up to. Only now did Connor understand how grievous the matter was. Would his brother really die for such a matter? Connor, faced Thomas and knocked his head on the floor repeatedly, and cried, “Dr. Mayo, you gotta save my brother!” Thomas stayed still, not making any movements. Connor repeatedly knocked his head on the floor again and again till he bled from his forehead. Thomas remained unbothered and still.

* Azier huffed but retreated back a bit to watch. He realized she was watching him, and cleared his throat, oh right his name. He smiled apologetically "My name is Koin, that's Connor, my mom Rheida, and my dad Dedrick." he gestured around the room to each of them as he gave out names. His dad actually smiled, being suspiciously upbeat this morning all things considered. Connor gave a dismissive wave, eyeing the food Koins mom was setting out. He noticed Thalia's eyes settled on his mom thoughtfully and she nodded, her easy smile slowly forming "Good morning." She said to Thalia who shrugged. Connor was about to say something but thought better of it and a pang of guilt settled on his gut.

Plus, you’ve been busy taking over the world or some shit,” Connor says, easily joking with Quirin. “Yeah and that ‘some shit’ is about to be done. I want to get home my pups.” “Good, your hair is looking a bit dull without any glitter in it,” Connor says, grinning widely as Quirin growls at him. Kennedy just smiles and leans into her mate. He kisses her quickly before stepping forward.

With Eleanor sending the majority of her remaining warriors off the territory, to intercept a false target, it was time to make a move. Connor’s skin thrummed with anxious energy as the late night hour crept upon them. He had been in that cell for over a day, his only break being dragged to the dining hall the night before, and he was ready to get out. He wasn’t a blood thirsty warrior. He had seen the battlefield turn many of his friends into vengeful wolves, always seeking their next taste of enemy blood, but he had never succumbed. He didn't enjoy killing but he'd do it when those he cared for were being threatened. Never before had Connor felt so threatened, and he intended to do whateve

“Wait here.” I watched as the officer went and spoke to someone in a suit. He walked over to me. “Good afternoon...” he paused waiting for my name. “Dominic Thorn.” “Good afternoon, Mr. Thorn. I am Detective Connor Calloway. I believe you know whose car this is?” “It’s my fiancé's car, Leila Clarke. I was on the phone to her when the crash happened.” “Can you tell me what she said?” “Someone was following her, she said they were ramming her and then she crashed. There was a voice that said, ‘she’s mine’. Then the call cut off.”
