His Little Hunter
"Count to four. One, two, three, four. Hold it. Now out. One, two, three, four."
She tried to follow my lead, but her breaths were still too shallow, too fast.
"Again," I encouraged. "In for four. You're safe. Nothing is going to hurt you. Out for four."
It took several minutes, but gradually her breathing began to slow. The wild panic in her eyes didn't completely fade, but it dimmed enough that I knew she was coming back to herself.
"That's it," I murmured. "You're doing so well, little hunter."
