Dante instinctively stepped in front of Alessia, shielding her from the eerie presence that now rose from the throne. The man—or whatever remained of him—descended the stairs with impossible grace, each step echoing like a countdown in the marrow of their bones.
“I thought you were a myth,” Alessia said tightly, one hand resting on the dagger at her thigh, the other clutching her wounded shoulder.
