Marcus followed suit, slamming the hilt of his broadsword against his armored chestplate. Within seconds, the entire pack joined in. They did not cheer with human words. They stomped their boots, banged their fists against the stone, and released a thunderous, unified hum that shook the dust from the cavern rafters. A profound, thunderous murmur filled the air, vibrating through his bones. Ethan began to run instinctively, his intuition shouting that whatever was causing the tremors was nothing he needed not to confront. I heard Thorne stumble back, his boots dragging through the rocks.

Above their heads, near the ceiling beams, the air warped like heat rising off asphalt. A faint, web-like grid of pale silver light shivered in the air for a fraction of a second, hummed with a high-pitched, agonizing frequency, and then shattered with a sound like snapping glass. Sparks of dead static fell through the air, melting into nothingness before they touched the floor. Noah gasped, staring up at the empty air where the light had been. The skin on his arms pricked up in goosebumps. "What... what was that?"
