Wolves don’t usually patrol much in a storm. I gather all of my troops that I brought with me and I separate them into four groups. I am sending them to the four corners of the pack territory to see if my scouts can find some kind of clue to help us find her. We don’t know how long the trail will be. I’m glad I’d warned them of the next thing Thunder and Frost have to do. We’re entering Claimed Territory. We’ve got to announce our presence. Heads thrown back, the two wolves howl. Thunder’s voice suits his name, a low and rolling rumble. Frost’s howl is long and eerie, the notes a deliberate disharmony so that two wolves sound like many. The horses snort and dance a bit, but don’t bolt. I’d watch the humans, but Frost isn’t interested in any of them except our Mate, who is listening with her head tilted a bit to one side, delighted.

Thane focused inward, seeking the voice of his wolf, Lunos. Instantly, images flooded his mind - vivid, primal, and clear. River's wolf, Selene, appeared before him, a majestic gray form that radiated strength and wisdom. Lunos responded, a strong, golden presence that resonated deeply within Thane.
