Tisha blinks against the bright light flooding the room, the brilliance causing her head to throb. The pain felt sharp, like shards of glass swirling in her skull.
"Where am I?" Tisha whispered into the room, closing then opening her eyes slowly, everything adjusting with time. I tried to lift my hands, but everything hurt. Strips of bandages rapped around my hands and legs. My legs Why couldn't I move my legs? I shifted, trying to feel something, anything, but all I felt was pain. Mind-blinding pain. Panic flooded my bloodstream with the realization that I was helpless and settling.
