The child stepped closer, and the shadows recoiled, curling around the elder, isolating him from the world.
“Child?” the youngest asked, tilting their head. “Perhaps… once. But now…” They paused, and the air shivered around them. “Now I am everything.”
With that, the ground beneath the elder split. Black tendrils rose from the cracks like grasping fingers. He fell to his knees, screaming, but the child only watched.
