The world narrowed to the sound of his own ragged breathing. "And," Kael’s hologram continued, "I thought you might need some exercise." The wall on the far side of the abyss groaned. A massive section of the plating slid aside, revealing a hidden hangar bay. From the darkness, heavy, rhythmic thuds shook the walkway. BOOM. BOOM. BOOM. Two shapes emerged. They were nightmares of engineering. "Titan" Class Suppression Mechs. Twelve feet tall, humanoid but distorted, with hydraulic pistons for muscles and slabs of black plasteel for skin. Their heads were sensor clusters glowing with a singular red eye.

Moments later, a roar falls from my lips as I transform into my massive, dark brown wolf, Janus. DANTE A mile in as Titan sprints towards the pack house, I hear screams. Titan glances over to see a man pounding away at some poor woman. He quickly glances away once we reach them and takes off like a bat out of hell so we aren’t spotted. Technically, I wasn’t supposed to show Titan to anyone. Shifters wouldn’t understand the blue crescent Moon between our eyes.

Ravi slammed the door behind him and was startled to find Adrian floating by the window, his wings flapping, hands folded across his chest, wearing a smug expression. He knew all too well that this creature was the one responsible for the chaos Ravi had just experienced. Ravi quickly moved to the window, fists clenched in anger, a sharp gaze directed at him with disapproval. He opened the window with a loud creak. "You're the problem here."

Their Alpha, a massive beast named Titan, stepped forward on hydraulic hind legs that hissed with every movement. "You carry the scent of the organic," Titan rasped: his voice a distorted, metallic growl that lacked any melodic resonance. "But the organic is weak. The 'Clockwork Necrosis' takes the flesh, but the iron endures." Even as he spoke, Titan’s metallic chest plate buckled, and a thick, black fluid—a mixture of oil and infected blood—leaked from a seam in his shoulder. He collapsed: his hydraulic limbs locking up as the mechanical components began to reject the remaining, dying marrow in a systemic meltdown.

In the Primordial’s wing, silence stretched thick across Titan’s study. The room was expansive, dimly lit by a few burning candles inside iron sconces along the tiled walls. Ancient runes pulsed faintly beneath the marble floor like veins beneath skin. Titan stood by the towering glass ceiling window, hands clasped behind his back as he overlooked the winding staircases below and beyond them—the ancient forest. Even from here, it felt restless tonight. His silver eyes narrow slightly. “Did the forest react to her presence?” he asks at last.

His eyes held me like steel. “I want to see the strong warrior I trained, the monster and also you in control of it.” A heavy gate opens at the far side of the arena. My stomach knotted. Titan stepped through. He was huge in size, eight feet tall, with broad shoulders enough to block the light of the day and arms spread like tree trunks.

He caught me by the collar, pulling me up against his burning chest. But the titan was not defeated. Enraged by the sovereign fire, the massive creature slammed its main body against the inner walls of the inverted spire. The obsidian glass cracked from top to bottom, shattering into millions of razor-sharp shards that rained down into the void. Free from its ancient shell, the monstrous, pale horror began to climb up the iron support chains directly toward our ledge, its green eyes burning with an unholy hunger, its calcified jaw unhinging to reveal rows of jagged, iron-hard teeth.

He pulled out and drove across the road and into the parking lot. He looked at the vehicles that were parked in it. There were a lot of out-of-state plates. Several were from North Carolina. He pulled up the file from Tito to see if there was anything on Kevin’s vehicle. Kevin’s driver’s license and plates were still registered in North Carolina. He looked at the make and model and plate number. Tito was an amazing hacker. Tito probably wasn’t even his real name. He drove by the cars again and spotted the car. Right make and model. He looked at the license plate number and they matched.

Not the name packs whispered when they wanted children to behave. It was Katrina’s strength. André’s fire. Lando’s laughter. Persephone and Delilah sleeping without fear beneath my roof. Crista’s trust. Gwen and Christina’s future. I returned to bed and gathered my mate close. The monster of Incubi had become something far more dangerous.
