Things happened too quickly, and Shadow Two shielded Clara behind him to block the black figure’s attack. That black figure just moved past him. Shadow Two’s face stiffened as his eyes widened in disbelief. In that instant, he felt an overwhelming sense of dread, but he could not do anything. Bam! Shadow Two fell in front of Clara. Clara’s face froze. She could not understand what had happened. After a long time, she finally realized what had happened. “Shadow Two!” she cried out in rage and shock. The black figure had killed her guard! Who was he? Why did he obey Dustin?

I’m answering prayers they’ve yet to pray. For weeks, Lucky did this. Slaughtered, testing her limits and feeding her revenge, safe under the anonymity of her shadow. Killed, never eating, rarely drinking, the shadow giving her what she needed to survive if she would give it what it craved: the experience of a life ending. The shadow relishing the confused panic of these strangers as they realized this was their end. Those final moments of heartbreak and regret for all they were losing. Family, friends, dreams. She knew it already but her thoughts turned all true just when she heard a loud sound ringing in the silent cabin the next second. *DASHH* The loud noise followed, making her alert this time. Her doubts turned all true. She looked towards the direction of the sound, which was right behind her in a second and there she saw a shadow of a huge tall and bulky built hiding behind the shelves. Her insides twisted looking at the sight but she wasn't able to see the face of the invader properly due to the dim lighting of the cabin. Her eyes widened in fear yet she gutted back to step ahead towards the invader in order to start fighting off.

“What’s coming? What’s the real threat?” The Keeper’s expression darkened. “The one who seeks to wipe out the balance entirely. The one who will turn the shadows into their weapon—and the light into their prison.” A cold wind swept through the cavern, and a new, ominous presence loomed behind them. Chapter 84: The Shadow’s Vengeance Suddenly, a ripple of darkness spread across the cavern floor, forming into a black sphere pulsating with malevolent energy. It was alive, breathing, waiting. And from within it, a voice echoed—deep, guttural, and utterly terrifying.

Out of nowhere, a bone arrow sliced through the air and struck his chest with a sharp hiss. The arrow, upon contact with Jim's blood, glowed a sinister red. His face contorted in pain, and suddenly, his grip failed him as he plummeted from the sky. I dashed forward, my heart racing, and leaped to cover Jim with my body. The Haunts erupted into mocking laughter. "Jim, we've taken apart the bones of the mortal who wanted you dead and crafted them into these arrows. Take one more step and we'll pin you down in front of your own troops!"

“She told me that I would want to give up. That others would try to dim the light in me. That I’d be called names. ‘Shadow. Curse. Ghost.’ She said all of that. As if she knew.” Ryker didn’t move, barely breathed. Trixie lifted her eyes. “But she said, ‘You are not a shadow. You are not my ghost. You are my dawn. My blood. The fire they’ll never tame.’” Her lips trembled. “And then she kissed my forehead. She bled on my ribbon. And she whispered, ‘Wait for the light. Be the light, if it never comes.’” Tears slid down her cheeks. “And then she was gone.”

KAEL’S POV The shadow shouldn’t have moved. Fire flickers. Walls breathe. Darkness lies. But shadows— Shadows follow. This one didn’t. It peeled itself off the stone like it had been waiting beneath the surface, like the wall had only been a skin it decided to shed. And when it stepped forward— The temperature dropped so fast my breath fogged. Every instinct I had screamed one thing. Kill it. But my body— Didn’t move. Not because I couldn’t.

The manor was quiet, the fires dying, the wolves watching from the shadows. My mother met me in the great hall. Her face was pale. Kaelen is asking for you, she said. He says it is not over. He says the shadow is not dead. My blood went cold. Where is he? In the library. Kaelen was sitting by the fire, a blanket over his shoulders, a book in his lap. His grey eyes were sharp, focused. The shadow cannot be killed by steel, he said. Not by the Kingslayer. Not by the dagger. It can only be transferred or bound.
