I don’t look at the unread text still sitting in our thread. I just whisper to the dark, “Please let tomorrow make sense.”

The ER has been short-staffed lately, and you'll cover there for a few days. I looked out the window at the darkening sky and allowed myself a faint smile. "Understood. I'll report tomorrow." After hanging up, I walked to the minibar and poured myself a glass of red wine. Elliot's immune system had already been completely destroyed. At most, he would survive until tonight before going into shock. Jeannie was about to experience the most desperate moment of her life. "Cheers." I raised my wine glass toward my reflection in the floor-to-ceiling window.

"Am I pathetic?" Rio didn’t answer right away. After a long silence, a deep sigh came through the receiver. "Hold on for two more days. I’ll arrange everything for your departure." After hanging up, I slumped to the ground and sat there for a long time. I couldn’t see the light outside fade from day to night. At dinner time, Anthony came upstairs and walked into my room on his own.

What she needed to do was enjoy the present. "Do you still remember the things we talked about after watching the movie?" Stephanie asked all of a sudden. "Of course." Adrian nodded. "You said we should play the claw machine on our next date." Stephanie let out a small sigh. "I've been quite busy lately, so I don't have time to play the claw machine. But I'm quite free tomorrow… Do you have time tomorrow?" "Yeah." Adrian didn't even hesitate to respond. "I can accompany you anytime you feel like playing the claw machine."

Then tomorrow. I could do three more seconds.

I mumbled. She cupped my cheek, "You're never losing me." She smiled. "But if ever there's a tomorrow and we're not together. There is something you must remember. You're braver than you believe and stronger than you seem and smarter than you think. But the important thing is, even if we're apart...I'll always be with you." She nodded. "Yesterday is a history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a present, why don't we enjoy every piece of happiness that comes around us." She said. "Just forget about the bad dream, it's a dream which can never come true."
