Bound by paper
I admitted, the honesty raw in my voice.
Jade’s lips curved into a small, knowing smile. "Neither do I," she whispered.
Then she kissed me. It was not the hungry, desperate kiss from before. It was gentle. Soft. A promise.
And I knew then, with a bone-deep certainty, that if she ever left me, I would not survive the fall. Because she had found her way into the parts of me I had buried, and she was making them breathe again.
Jade stood slowly, sliding off my lap. She did not pull away completely; she offered her hand. "Come inside," she said softly. "Aurelia is back. She is asking for her daddy."
