I was a Saint to my mom and a slut to the men in my life. I grabbed my sketchbook and a charcoal stick. I didn't plan it. I just started scratching at the paper, the black dust staining my fingers. I drew myself not the pretty version. I drew a boy with his chest ripped open, screaming into a void. I drew giant, jagged hawks with Chadwick’s eyes and Miguel’s tattoos, literal pieces of my flesh hanging from their beaks. I pressed so hard the charcoal snapped, tearing the paper. It was the only way I could scream.

Jonah’s still at the table, drawing now instead of eating, his pencil moving in quick strokes across the page. I sit there with him for a few more minutes, neither of us saying anything, just existing in the same space while Mara’s music pounds through the walls from her room. Then he turns it around so I can see. I go still. It’s a drawing of a car. Not just any car. Two cars, actually, twisted together in the middle of the page like they’ve collided, metal crumpled and glass scattered everywhere. The lines are dark and heavy, pressed so hard into the paper in some places that it’s torn through.

She leans close to Vanessa and whispers what is written on the slip. As soon as the timer begins to tick, Vanessa starts drawing on the white board while Xander tries to guess it. “That’s…a parrot?” Xander stares at the contorted drawing of something that looks like a frog in my perspective. “It looks more like a kangaroo to me.” My head turns to Romeo. My jaw is agape while I stare at him. “Is…is that smoke?” Xander begins to wonder, raising his brow curiously at the random waves that Vanessa is drawing.

“Hey buddy! How are you?” He bit his lip, suddenly shy. "I'll miss you, Sister! Come back soon.” Before I could reply, he turned to Xeros and handed him something– more like, pushed something into his hand. Before we could ask anything, he darted away. Xeros carefully unfolded the paper, and I found myself peeking over his arm in curiosity. But never could have prepared me for what I found: it was a drawing , with me, Xeros and Adam. Adam had drawn himself smiling in the center, clutching both our hands as we ran through the rain and storms together.

He does this all the time just to stop me from crying, and it works every single time. He grabbed my hand and took me back to his desk, he held the paper and said, "here, your turn to draw", he said ordering, I took the paper and draw him making him look like an old man , I drew him right next to the girl that’s supposed to be me, and made them holding hands. Suddenly I got an idea, I added a black moustache to Tony's face that I just draw, and started doing the same with Tony's real face, the one who was sitting next to me. "Ouch!! Be careful Scar!!", he said making me laugh, Tony looked to the paper one more time and blushed when he saw our holding hands.

“Dr. Almasi showed me how the cover goes back. We can see everything!” The reinforced shield covering the massive dome was still in place, but his enthusiasm made it transparent. “It’s the Star-Viewing Dome, right?” I asked, leaning against a soft cushion. “Yes! And listen, I figured out what I’m drawing next. I’m drawing the grumpy man, Mr. Conti. But not grumpy. I’m drawing him with a cape and a big telescope.” I stifled a gasp. “A cape? Why a cape, Leo?”

"I probed deeper. Asked about Papa, about grandmother, about Mama Rissa who I heard recently returned. And Junior drew this." Dr. Linda placed down the second drawing. Another figure. Taller. A dress drawn with elaborate, careful detail. But the face... the face was scribbled over with black crayon. Over and over. With enough pressure that the paper tore in several places. Below it, the words "MAMA RISSA" in shaky, angry letters. "When drawing this," Dr. Linda continued in a soft voice, "Junior was very upset. His hands were shaking. He scribbled over the face repeatedly while saying, 'She's mean. She made Mama sad. She took Optimus.'"

Even though the boy had said it several times since the morning. Damian glanced over. “Yes?” Silas held up the drawing. “Does this look like a spaceship?” Damian stepped closer to examine it. It was mostly blue and red lines with several crooked circles attached. He nodded thoughtfully. “It looks like it could travel very far.” Silas grinned proudly. “I added extra engines.” “Smart design.” Silas pointed to a small stick figure drawn beside the ship. “That’s me.” Damian studied it. “And who’s flying the ship?”

I set it on the table, opened the clasp, and flipped back the cover. There was no marked floor plan. No security notes. Nothing except one sheet of white paper that immediately slid out, slipped past my fingers, and landed directly on the table. In front of Rafael. Face-up.
