"Almost done! Just a little touch-up!" A focused Travis hissed as his slim fingers made shades of lines on a portrait he had been drawing. He carefully made a four with his legs that were nervously trembling as he traced his pencil on the portrait— afraid that he'd make a mistake. He stopped for a brief moment and went on to take a sip of orange juice. "And-d-d…done!" He expressed happily while exhaling deep breaths of relief. His eyes that were glowing with glee averted themselves from the portrait, towards a void of blackness that was decorated by birthstone-blue stars in the shapes of pentagrams.

While David was distracted with the other minions, Dorime began to splash ink in the wall using the onyx. He shaped it using his little hands and used his flying golem for the unreachable places. He painted a humanoid striking a T-pose in the center of the wall, with lines near its body, as if they represented that it was glowing. Near, he made the crude shapes of various of his new and older brothers: Skeletor was a small horned humanoid, lumps represented the rats and squirrels, some tunneling worms, vultures, beetles, and even some ants.

But that wasn’t what he was drawing today. There was a picture of two girls—rendered crudely in crayon, but still identifiable as girls. One of them had short blond hair and the other had long brown braids. Their hands were on their faces and their mouths open in screams. David had drawn these as big black circles. A huge black shadow hovered before them, a shapeless body with red eyes and clearly defined hands. The hands looked like long silver knives. There were many drawings before this one. Lauren wondered how long David had been at it.

Scribbles of stars above the figure’s head. “What’s this one called?” I asked gently. “‘Sky Fire.’ It’s what a superhero wears. She doesn’t fly. She just makes people feel better when they’re crying.” My throat thickened. I kissed his forehead and stared at the drawing long after he curled up in my lap, eyes drooping. Sky Fire.

“Are you Lia’s bodyguard?” Adrian’s voice came out low, gentle, nothing like the man who once signed my death warrant. “Something like that.” Liam studied him for a long moment, then held out the colouring page he’d been working on. It was a crude drawing of a woman with long black hair and a man in a black cape standing beside her, holding hands. “That’s you,” Liam said proudly, pointing at the woman. “And that’s your superhero.” My throat closed. Adrian crouched slowly so he was eye-level with the bed.

I say, and the boy comes closer to me with confidence oozing from him. He hands me his drawing with a smug expression on his face. Oh, heavens, he's like a mini Harry. I take a look at the drawing, and wow. It's a drawing of a rocket, and it's so beautiful. No wonder he was bullying Lilah; his drawing is otherworldly. "Dylan, this is..." I'm at a loss for words. "Amazing, fantastic, beautiful, perfect," he completes for me in a smug tone, and I roll my eyes.

"And Jackie and the kids." He left the two of them, crossing the room to where Emma and Grant were sprawled on the floor in front of the windows, paper and crayons scattered all around. As he approached, they looked up from their drawings. "Scott, I drew a princess in a castle with snow all around." Emma held up her paper proudly. "That looks great, l'il bit," he smiled. "I'm drawing a race car with a stormtrooper driving it," Grant told him.

Shelves filled with stuffed animals, puzzles stacked neatly in a corner, art supplies spread across a small table. Tamera ran over to show him her drawings. “I made this yesterday!” Lance stared at the colorful paper. It was a drawing of two stick figures holding hands. One tall. One small. Above them she had drawn a crooked sun and written their names. Lance swallowed. “That’s… really good.” Tamera smiled proudly. Behind him, Ragnar stepped quietly into the room. Lance turned and looked at him. For a moment neither of them spoke. Then Lance glanced back at the toys, the drawings, the warm house around them.

That is him. That is a sketch of me. I was sitting in the field looking up at the stars with a smile on my face. Without realizing it, my right hand drew fine sketch lines, thousands of lines layered and added to create an exact replica of that night, the twinkling stars in the sky, the glowing fireflies in the background, the view from the trees in the forest in the distance, and myself with a happy look in my eyes. As I put the picture on the floor, my breath started to hitch, and Darren's eyes widened when he saw it.

Because after I was done, I looked down. I saw Angelstar, my wolf, and a beautiful wolf has a midnight color on his tail and under his chest with a shape of a paw on his chest. I knew it was a bigger guy than her and me because they were on the mountain top watching the sky. Then something came to my mind. So I started drawing on the other pad. I was underlining the picture and coloring and shadowy the part of the picture. Once I was done. I gasped and hid my flush face because I had drawn a girl with beautiful platinum blonde hair and purple eyes, but I kept my eyes on her. Oh, my God! The drawing looks just like-
