This wasn’t about jealousy anymore. This wasn’t forgiveness gone wrong. This was a coordinated initiative. I wasn’t just being punished. I was being removed. The lights under the door faded as someone turned off the hallway lamps. Darkness closed fully, sealing me in. Alone. Trapped. Helpless. A whisper left my lips without sound: Lucas… Would he come? Would he be too late? Would this be the night everything ended? My vision blurred, fading in rhythmic waves. And just before consciousness slipped for good ......

Was it all a trap? Did I fall into their trap? Who was it? For some reason, my eyes shut close of their own accord and sent me into another orbit of darkness I was getting really used to. I lost consciousness.

The red ran down my fingers in streaks. “Take the high road?” I laughed. “How exactly am I supposed to do that?” He said nothing. He got back into his car and drove away.
