* Two hours later, the car stopped in front of a house surrounded by a pitch-black forest. The man forcefully dragged Caroline out of the car, and the driver held open the house's door, pushing her inside. The door was slammed shut and locked. Caroline tried to open the door, but it was futile. She felt trapped, and desperation set in. She called out, "Who are you? Why are you holding me against my will?" She then heard the car's engine start, realizing she might be imprisoned to her death. With no one around to help, no phone, and no food, Caroline felt helpless. She looked around the empty house, her fear growing as she explored its icy-cold walls.

"Ten-four Bravo, we're on our way." As we moved down the narrow stairway, my team quickly made their way behind us. As we reached the bottom, shots were fired our way. "I don't have time for this shit," I said as I put my gun back in its holster and snatched an assault rifle from one of my men. I headed down the stairs and started shooting. Everything around me blurred out. We were lured into a trap. Some men came out and started- "NO! NO!" I shouted; I couldn't zone out when I needed to get my wife back. I looked around and saw that everyone firing at us was dead. I shakily lowered the rifle I was holding.

It was a physical weight, cold and dense, wiping out any sense of direction. My lungs cramped, refusing to expand as the reality of the trap set in. This wasn't the consensual, thrilling darkness of the underground club where I had foolishly sought to discard my innocence. This was a stone-cold tomb.

Darkness crashes in. And I feel nothing at all.

I blurted out taking in the view of the darkening seacoast. He stood next to me and remarked, "It gets better in the morning." I became cold all of a sudden, but I related it to the fact that I had removed my sweater because it was too hot. As a result, I should have been hot. Before tonight, I never knew it was possible to feel so free and so trapped. The staff had all slipped out, like quiet shadows, so that we were utterly alone in the room. Miraculously resisting the impulse to break down or run away, I said. "I need to take a shower."
