She looked at Ryan and smiled. “Oh,” she said warmly. “Ryan, you are back.” Then her gaze shifted to me. “And you have brought her back.” She walked toward me slowly. My heart skipped. She stopped right in front of me and studied my face closely. “So,” she said softly, “you are Aria. The werewolf girl.” Before I could respond, she took my hand. Her grip was firm. She closed her eyes. I froze. A strange feeling passed through me. It was not pain. It was more like a gentle pressure...like something was brushing against my soul.

I walked beside Roxy, my head down, trying to blink away the tears that threatened to spill. Every step felt heavy, my backpack a physical weight on my shoulders. “Hey, Aria, look at me,” Roxy said gently, stopping in the middle of the hallway. I reluctantly lifted my head, my eyes red. “Don’t let those losers get to you. They’re not worth your time.” Roxy cupped my face in her hands. “You’re way better than them and stronger.”
