She shifted uncomfortably, the bruises on her ribs making even small movements a test of endurance. She leaned forward, fingers steady as she inserted the flash drive into the laptop. The drive’s label—*Romano*—flashed across the screen, a cold reminder of the name she’d spent years chasing, a name that had become the bedrock of her vengeance. A name that was, even now, still a mystery.

Yet, his footsteps echo behind me. As I reach the end of the road, my attention is drawn to a distressing scene unfolding before me. Two menacing figures loom over a trembling cabbage seller, their demands echoing through the bustling street. The woman's fear is palpable, her eyes pleading for assistance. Just as I prepare to intervene, Thrystan steps forward, his commanding presence capturing the attention of the crowd. "Why don't you leave the woman be, huh?" Thrystan's voice cuts through the tension like a blade, his gaze fixed unwaveringly on the aggressors.

He kept his eyes on her hands. After a moment she reached up and touched his jaw. Her thumb moved across his cheek. "You're awful quiet. Is everything okay?" He closed his eyes. Leaned into her hand. "It is now," he said. She watched him for another moment. Then she went back to her cards. "Look," she said after a while. She held one up. King of Hearts. "I found you." He took it from her. Turned it over. "Did you know the King of Hearts is the only face card with four hands? The others only have two."

He’s chewing thought. I swallow my nerves with a mouthful of lukewarm beer and keep my voice steady in my head. Okay. Two hearts on the table. My seven of hearts is live. Glaring at the bed, her pain increased and the way to get relief was to cause those papers that had stolen her happy moments the same pain they caused her.
