A frontal assault on a fortress city was suicide. "We don't take the bridge," Jack said. He turned to Valerius. "You said you were a 'failed product'. You said you were trash." Valerius flinched. "Is this the time for insults, Jack?" "No," Jack looked him in the eye. "It's time for intel. If the bridge is for the 'Perfect' citizens... where does the trash go?" Valerius stared at the city. He looked at the gleaming towers, then his eyes drifted down. Down toward the dark, jagged rocks at the base of the cavern wall, where thick, rusted pipes were vomiting sludge into the underground sea.
