Chapter 80: Christmas Proposal Kathleen’s P.O.V Christmas had been a lonely time for me these past few years. I had usually spent the holidays working or at the hospital, during my mother’s treatment. But this year, everything changed when I met Arthur and his little girl, Hayley. Today, Hayley turned to me with a big smile as we all gathered around the Christmas tree after dinner to exchange gifts. "Miss Kat, remember when I asked Santa for a mommy this Christmas?"

Before I could figure out what was going on, a tall and slender woman approached Dylan and me. She locked arms with Dylan and shot me an irritated look, asking, "Who's this?" Dylan answered before I could even say a word, speaking in a tone that made it seem like we had coincidentally run into each other. "She's Blake's girlfriend. She came to look for him." The woman immediately dropped her guard and curiously gave me a once-over. She smiled sweetly and introduced herself as Trixie Ashford. She was Dylan's girlfriend, and she had returned to the country specifically to celebrate Christmas with him.

Speak of the devil… “Rainey?” Mom called out. “In here,” I said, quickly placing the ornament on the tree. Tanner had already put several ornaments on the tree, so I had to make it look like we’d done that one first. The branch bowed under the weight of the ornament, and a few needles dropped to the ground. Tanner insisted we had a real tree every year. I had his Dad, Killian to thank for that. Killian had told Tanner that real trees were the only option for Christmas. Thinking of Killian made my head hurt. He had a stubborn personality that had a way of grating on my nerves.

I peered into the SUV and noticed a man sitting behind the steering wheel. "Your grandfather only wants what's best for you both." That was at times hard to believe. Smoke puffed out of the chimneys. The front door flew open, and Robyn ran out, stopping just a few steps outside the door. She wore no shoes, and she stood there hugging her arms to herself in the freezing morning air. We were going to have a white Christmas. "Robyn!" I ran up the stairs to meet her, hugging her tight. Her full name was KataRobyn Guardia, but we'd always called her Robyn.

We laughed, but the raw truth lingered: love blooming in the cold, defying crowns and calluses. As I drove away later, snow swirling, his figure in the rearview grew smaller, but the ache in my body and soul promised return. Christmas had given me more than tradition; it gave me Remmy, raw and real.

In the end, Emily's present won, and most of us got pranked by each other. Overall, that morning was truly perfect, all of us together under the tree sharing laughter. Just when I think I miss the life I had before, these moments make all those thoughts disappear. That was the life I wanted to have for the rest of my life. Narrator's POV "Merry Christmas, Caroline!" The man caught the attention of the blonde who was previously staring at the child playing with his new toy. "You know I'll only have a merry Christmas when Tyler Mitchell and his wife are six feet under," she responds dryly.

The third room is locked. I stand in front of the locked door for a long moment, hand on the handle, knowing this is important. Why lock a door in your own home unless you're hiding something? I move on before I get caught. The hallway opened into a massive living area, all windows and modern furniture and that enormous Christmas tree I saw when I first woke up. Presents are stacked underneath, wrapped in silver and white. I wonder if any of them are real or if they're just props in the set design of our supposed perfect life.

Ryan joined Tally and Noah, warmly embracing his wife and planting a loving kiss on her cheek. The anticipation of being alone with her overwhelmed him; she was truly captivating, both inside and out, igniting a passionate desire within him.
