So I stayed. The café was filling with the evening crowd now—students from nearby universities with laptops and headphones, a few couples celebrating early dinners, and a mother soothing a toddler with gentle humming. The lights cast everything in a golden haze, and the fireplace flickered in the back corner, making shadows dance slowly across the walls.

"We need to look perfect." The doors swung open and we walked in, the Grand Hall was a cathedral of black glass and soaring arches, lit by thousands of floating LED candles that mimicked a starlit sky. As we walked down the central aisle, the conversations died down to a low, buzzing murmur. I felt the weight of a hundred gazes. Some were admiring the diamonds woven into my silk while most were calculating the political implications of the color.

The cold floor sent chills through the soles of my feet as I walked quietly, doing my best not to make a sound. As I reached the bottom of the stairs, I noticed a soft light glowing from the kitchen. Low voices echoed through the hallway, but I couldn't quite make out what they were saying from where I stood. I crept closer, careful with each step, until I was just outside the kitchen door.

Those had been special tasks appointed to a trusted few yesterday. “It’s time.” Vee’s voice carried over us. “But they just left,” someone pointed out. They were right; we had at least an hour to wait, if not more. Vee answered, “Where we’re going, time doesn’t pass the same as here. Traveling through the Underworld is not to be taken lightly. Stay close and don’t wander off on your own, no matter what the twinkling lights say. Best not to look at the lights at all.”

Leo slammed his body hard against the heavy iron bar of the final security door. The rusty metal gave a loud, painful screech before swinging open completely. The cool, damp night air of the underground VIP parking lot hit my face, shocking my senses after the suffocating heat of the kitchen hallways. The space was massive, lit only by a few flickering yellow lights that cast long, scary shadows across the grease-stained concrete floor.

He sat by Logan and waited for the doctor to come out. the red light on the top of the operation room was blinking, and all the hope was tied to it. and then after many long hours the light turned off and the doctors came out. Both of them rushed towards him with a hopeful expression. …………………………

She was probably the only person immune to me and that added to what made her a great friend. I turned off my phone and went out to check on the real reason I'd come to this shitty bar chock-full of humans. Fate smiled on me as I saw her talk to a man with a green mohawk and relinquish her place behind the turntable. Finally. Tucking into my phone into the pocket of my blazer, I took the stairs down and the first thing I felt was the heat that all the people were generating. The dancefloor was illuminated from underneath by strobe lights and that added to the heat. I was surprised that none of the sweat covered humans that were dancing felt it.

shouted the man who raised his voice. Noah listening to the man's words made him laugh out loud, “Pfft … you seem to be underestimating her. Although, she is a girl. However, she is the vice-leader of the Blue Starlight team.” When he heard the dark red-haired man's words, the man was immediately shocked and his eyes widened. It seemed he knew something when Noah said the word “Starlight”.
