It was part cathedral, part slaughterhouse. Candles burned in the corners, flickering over tables stacked with guns, talismans, and cash. In the center, a massive mural sprawled across the wall, a wolf chained beneath a crown of thorns.

An hour later, The council chamber of the Blackthorn Tribunal was a cathedral of spectacle, not justice. Carved into the volcanic cliffs of Stonevale, its walls breathed smoke and shadow, while spectral flames floated in sconces that never burned out. Chains etched with runes coiled along the stone like serpents waiting to strike. And above the central dais, three colossal horns of judgment hung suspended, relics of a time when verdicts were followed instantly by executions. Xander stood in the ring below.

The Hall of Final Testament had not been built for mercy. Every stone, every carefully placed torch, every acoustic principle had been designed to strip away hope and leave only the terrible majesty of ecclesiastical justice. It was as though time itself had refused to touch this place. Finally… The staircase opened into an enormous underground hall. The four of them froze to see hundreds of black stone pillars stretched toward the darkness above. Each pillar was carved with scenes of war, peace, harvest, and judgment. Golden braziers burst into flame the instant Maritza entered and the hall became as bright as day.

Dark eyes sharp, mouth a hard slash of red, she looked between us like she was recalibrating a weapon. Then, gracefully, she stepped back into the darkness and was gone. The floor thrummed under my bare feet, a steady, mounting vibration like the approach of a massive, unseen thing. Faint growls—or words, I couldn’t tell—ghosted through the stone.

The last time I saw Juden was six days ago when I barged into the Throne Room to take back what’s rightfully mine. “No, but I need to. He has all the answers I need.” Sky hums at my answer, his steady presence calming me. With a deep breath, I motion for the Guards to open the doors and begin to descend the stairs. Five minutes and I find myself on the first floor of the dungeons, expecting to see a damp dingy hallway and not a place brightly lit with secured doors spaced evenly on either side. “Which one is his?” I ask, looking towards Sky who takes the lead.
