The Pack's Emissary
The zombie fought her way along the shaft of the spear, seeking to reach them, at first flailing and then gripping the pole and dragging herself forward, leaving a foul slick behind her as she gnashed her teeth at them.
One of the Mer said something in a tone that Lyric knew contained swear words.
“A zombie,” she replied. “This is what happens to humans who are exposed to too much of the polluted water.”
“Why?” The female Mer was appalled. “Why would they do this to themselves? No, never mind,” she dismissed the answer. “We need to secure this… person,” she used the word dubiously. “And examine them closer. Bring restraints,” she said to one of the other Mer. “Quickly.”
