A shelf in the kitchen held small jars of spices, but rather than the usual garlic, pepper, or chili powder, the jars were labeled with things like Horehound, Solomon's Seal, and Myrrh. Another thing that caught our attention was the bookshelf in the living room. Most of the titles appeared to be hand-bound in leather. The names on the spines sent a chill straight through me. Herbs and Spells, Magical Uses for Mammals and Reptiles, and The Book of Shadows. The biggest book sat on a small table beside the shelf. Leo opened it and was flipping through a few pages when I leaned over his shoulder to take a look. All I found on the pages was a strange, unreadable script and some obscure hand-draw

"Harry is bouncing in place, eager to see what kind of mischief we can get up to. My home might have been fairly serious growing up, but that doesn’t mean that I didn’t find a few practical spells that I adapted to be a little silly. Not that I would have dared to try any of them. Quick as a flash Levy got off the bed and started looking through the books that she brought, her eyes skimming through the title of each chapter. “ Soul resurrection, how to make Sorcerer's stone, summoning of the great wizard, making of the wand, law of Hamartia…” she read the title of each chapter before reaching the end of the book. And just like the notebooks’ there wasn’t even the slightest hint of the spell called soul fetching, how was this possible? The book had an entire thirty-page chapter on soul resurrection but not soul fetching.

Mom asks as we sit at the kitchen table eating sandwiches and potato chips. "Fine. Uncle Harry sure had a wide range of interests. He's got everything from biographies to books on Wicca." I tell her. "I'm about halfway through. How's it going in the basement?" "Slow. Your uncle wasn't the most organized man in the world." Mom says, sighing. "I'm really having to organize everything before I can start sorting through his finances. This may take longer than I thought."

You either can do magic or you can’t.” I flicked through a book called Out In The Field, which turned out to be a guide to planting crops at different times of the year, and placed it back on the shelf.
