I wrinkled my nose, coughed around the burn in my throat. "What is this? Fire water?" I clunked the glass back down on the slightly sticky table. I shook my head. "How the heck do people drink this? Why do they drink it?" Drace rocked to my side. She'd downed at least three of the little glasses full of pale amber liquid before I'd even taken my seat fully. "Cuz they like the effects, not the taste, corcra." Her shoulder bumped into mine as her fiery breath grazed my cheek.

Whatever. I finally set aside my full glass of pale yellow disgustingness, almost clinging to Sashenka who had the good taste to be drinking a soda herself. At least, I thought it was soda. I shook it and found it empty. "I guess I drank it all," I whined as I continued walking, shaking the empty bottle once more and sending it through a tree, shattering it to pieces. He got up from the sofa and walked into the kitchen, returning with a pint glass. He proceeded to circle the room, taking the drinks from each of his mates and pouring them into the glass. The result was a gross looking mixture of beer, cider and vodka with coke. Passing it carefully to Alice, Caleb demanded that she drink it. The others started to chant, "Down it, down it." Alice curled her lip in disgust as she raised the glass to her mouth and got a noseful of the foul liquid. "You don't have to down it," Caleb said. "Put you only have three minutes to finish it. Starting... now."

Adam unscrewed the bottle of alcohol and tilted it, measuring out an appropriate amount into a glass before passing it to me. I swallowed the lump that was rapidly rising in my throat, uncertain if I should go through with it or not. I had been the one to request this, yet never once had I ever considered drinking something like this. Fear of the unknown and uncertainty circled around me as I held onto the glass before me hesitantly. Even though a part of me wanted to turn away from what was about to happen, something inside felt compelled to stay and see it through till the end.
