But Francis, a vampire hunter accustomed to vampires moving fast, was faster. He shot Kaya down, one arrow in each of her shoulders, and then a final one into her heart. The precision of his shot was frightening for how far away he was, hidden on a rooftop of an opposite building. Kaya coughed once, twice, and yielded blood from her both the third time. She was spewing before I knew what was happening.

I smiled gently. “You have a warrior’s body.” I ran my fingers down a particularly ropey scar down her side. “What was this one from?” “Bobby Brown,” she said. “A werewolf that liked to hunt human children. He had a thing for their hearts. He’d barbecue them.” She shuddered with the memory. “He had killed my client’s nephew. Took me a week but I got him. Brought his heart to my client as proof.” She spoke matter of factly, no pride in her voice. She might not be proud of herself, but I was impressed. I had heard of Bobby Brown and had heard of the hunter that got him. I didn’t realize it was her.

Their goal was to liberate humans from the vampire's oppression. Most of the hunters were trained to be skilled assassins. They would hide and attack whenever they got a chance. For a moment, I didn't know how I should feel about this news. Alex kept studying my face as if to search for some sort of reactions from me. I had no idea how I looked to her, but she just leaned in to kiss the corner of my lips.

After that, a different kind of satisfaction came across me. I enjoyed hunting these human hunters, thus, killing 10 werewolves and being the youngest and best werewolf hunter. Rendall killed 8 werewolves which are also not that bad, Quinn is setting poisonous traps and putting some on the bows granting her 4 kills. We make a great team. “Let’s go, Raffi.” I turned and saw Rendall brushing his mid-length hair using his fingers. “Are you going on a date?” I asked him as I scanned his clothes.

I shook my head as this wasn’t making any sense. “The kills, they weren’t all vampires. Most of them were other hunters. I think this one is on the run from his own. But the fact he’s gotten this deep into the territory has Ductus Toño on edge, sending his men looking for him.” Diana explained. A hunter being hunted by his own? Well, shit, what could he have done to cross his people? Mistake one of a supernatural creature? It’s still not adding up. And honestly, beyond adding avoid the hunter to my list, I don’t see a reason to care.
