One by one, they stepped into the moonlight, revealing their gaunt, hungry faces. “Ambush!” Dane shouted, drawing his blade. The vampire that lunged at me moved like a shadow, its body unnaturally fast and silent. Its sunken face twisted with hunger, revealing jagged, yellowed fangs dripping with saliva. Its skin was sickly pale, stretched tightly over sharp cheekbones, making it look more like a walking corpse than a living creature. Its crimson eyes burned with an unnatural glow, locked onto me with deadly intent.

"I can feel your fear, smell your blood, and my body is screaming to take a big, huge bite." Elijah Orleans was overcome with uncontrollable fear that seemed to fill every part of his body. The woman standing before him had a face that turned dark as she stared at him. She pulled back a little, her chest rising, and her mouth opening in a way that he knew was not possible for a normal human being. Large fangs came out in the place of her normal teeth, and her face took on the shape of a ferocious animal. Veins popped out on her face, and her pure brown eyes turned a shade of black worse than anything he had ever seen before. She growled, emitting the most terrifying sound he had ever heard.

The professor ambled back to the lectern. “Vampires are thought to be models of physical perfection,” he said to the class. “Fast, strong, handsome or beautiful. And by and large, much of that seems to be true. But there are stories that every now and then, something goes awry in the transmission process when a victim is bitten. The result of such an occurrence is a flawed creature, without the powers of a true vampire. Vampires have a name for such a creature—grafhym. The chief marker for a grafhym, it is said, is one fang instead of two.”

Strangers she might once have passed on some forgotten street leaned in too close, whispering syllables that pricked her ears. Each face lingered too long, unsettlingly real, before morphing into grotesque parodies, pulling her own reflection into a funhouse of terror. Limbs stretched, torsos bent, jaws dangled like broken hinges. Eyes gleamed like shattered glass, reflecting everything yet catching nothing, staring through her as if trying to strip her soul bare. The scent of decay tinged the air, sickly - sweet. Vaethea’s nostrils flared. Every inhale tasted like metal and ash, burning through divine grace, stirring the vampire’s craving.

She found the oversized reading chair near the window and curled into it, flipping open the first book. The words leapt off the page. “To drink the blood of a mortal is to tether them. To drink the blood of a wolf is to invite war. Vampires, once gods of the night, now bound to laws born of blood and shadow…” Her heart beat faster. The text described things in such vivid detail—the hierarchy of vampire covens, the venom in their fangs, the way their eyes glowed during feeding, their immortal thirst, and their deadly aversion to sunlight and silver.

She believed sometimes knowledge and curiosity would put someone's life at risk and she didn't want to drag anyone along with her crazy obsession about supernatural beings. With her secret collection, she knew that the prominent kind residing with humans were vampires. They were categorized in three categories. Pureblooded were those who were born as vampires with parents who were both vampires, they were the strongest. Turned vampires, humans who went through transition. And half-vampires, those who were fruits of the union of vampires and humans.

I raised my voice, trying to keep up the brave act. Just seeing their face makes me to want to crawl under the earth. I don't know why, but vampires made me feel sick to the very core. It's obvious that they were using their charms and good looks to lure in all humans and use them as their personal blood bag.

A strong desire for blood washed through my body, but I fought back the urge to devour her (even though, we're in a dream, and she's not real). I shyly moved away from her, but she drew me closer to herself.she planted a kiss on my lips, without any ounce of fear for my bared fangs. "Feed on me daddy… " she whispered in my ears. In the blink of an eye, I had planted my rod inside her. Her soft moans sent the wrong signals to my brain, and my lust for blood came back with full force. I gave in to my desire, as my fangs bored through her neck.

Who would've thought that we had such creatures living among us? "The one who attacked you was a shapeshifter. They are known to be able to imitate any living form. They can change and impersonate any living being on this planet. They can be very dangerous. You might be having a normal conversation with your mom one day but it could be a shapeshifter and you wouldn't even know." As he spoke to me, a little piece of my memory from that night came back.
