Chapter Eighteen Hunter’s POV I rode through the forest, my horse thudding his hooves on the undergrown bushes. The trees stood tall and thick, their branches forming a canopy above. This was the southern border, the very edge of our territory, where the earth had revealed its secrets a few weeks ago… gold, and plenty of it. The recent letter from the Steeprock pack had been annoying. A warning and hidden threat, no less, about activities encroaching into their land.

Hell, her reaction this morning wasn't even an overreaction if they ask him. However, her thirst for the truth will definitely put her to danger. It worries him that she might cross borders that are not meant for humans to step over. That's the main reason why hunters like him exist. They are the only ones who can move and poke their noses into human and vampire businesses. Her lights went out and he even saw her silhouette as she moved to the wall before the lights went off. That was his cue to go inside and walk upstairs. Mrs. Dawson is already waiting in front of her own unit.

I lifted my head and saw them. They were ten wolves in black tactical gear with rifles slung across their backs and swords at their hips.

Damian went after him to calm him down just in case he goes berserk and kills the ghouls in the Imperio. “If you crossed the border for her, there should be a reason, right?” Nerissa said, looking at Kiera. Her face was all red, her sweat was rushing down from her head to her neck. “She’s a bait to lure out the hunters,” said Solana. The hunters from humanity's border were the ones who massacred Solana’s entire clan. They were people who didn't abide by the rules and lived amongst mankind by their side of the border.

They were humans trained to hunt and kill vampires, equipped with weapons specifically designed to bypass their defenses. “What proof do we have?” Valen asked, his tone icy. Dorian handed him a small pouch. Valen opened it to reveal shards of silver-coated arrows and what appeared to be a vial of holy water. “These were found near the border,” Dorian said. “They’re definitely hunters’ weapons.” Valen clenched his fist, his mind racing. The Southern Clan was one of the strongest allies of the Eastern Clan. If hunters had targeted them, it meant the entire vampire clan was at risk.

She says before grabbing up her twins and taking them to the pack house safe house. I hope I can find Shelby before anything happens but I have to go lock down the borders I've been assigned. The 20 warriors and myself make it to the southern western border, the rogues are slowly coming out of the woods, about 20-30 rogues. I hope everyone on this side of the pack have gotten to one of the safe houses. I roar as I shift into my wolf Aiden before jumping on the nearest rogue and clamp my jaws around it's neck. I drop the rogue and immediately go to the next.

I would have caught his scent if he was. Which meant one thing: He had help getting past our borders. Or someone wanted him inside. And they wanted him timed in now… And I wasn’t letting that go unanswered. Not when I knew that it could put my woman in danger. I stood in the underground office beneath the training grounds, the cold blue glow of surveillance screens painting the walls. Hunter handed me a tablet, a map of the pack borders, blinking red where the breach had been.

And they’d have to be suicidal to come into Guaymas. “Are you shitting me?” I arched my brow. “No. A hunter is on his way to Guaymas. He may already be here. There was a big stink on the American side of the border, and several bodies had turned up. Hunter kills. But well, it’s weird….” Diana frowned. “What’s weird? And you said one. Why would a hunter try to make a solo run on Sonora?” I shook my head as this wasn’t making any sense.

"Let's get those damn trackers out of us." We waited an extra day, just in case more came. The mountain remained eerily quiet, the snow undisturbed except for the tracks we had left behind. By the time the sun began to dip behind the trees, casting long shadows across the frozen ground, we were packing up and heading down. The whole thing felt wrong. Orin. Jade. Werewolf hunters turning into what they hunted? All of it felt off. What was the point of it all? The truck came into view, buried under a layer of snow, and I couldn’t have been happier to see it.
