Veronica. "Catrinaaaa..." A voice floated down the tunnel, melodic and mocking. It sounded like a warped version of my own voice, distorted by the echoes of the concrete. "I know you're down here, little sister. I can smell the expensive perfume Julian bought you. I can smell the fear on your skin." Julian shifted, his thumb clicking the safety off his weapon. I squeezed his arm, signaling him to stay silent. Veronica was a hunter of the dark; she fed on the sound of breathing.

She switched her surfboard from her right hand to her left and then extended her right hand to me for a hand shake “Hey” I replied, taking her hand. I was surprised by how quickly she noticed me and came over. “I'm Veronica” “Nice to meet you, Veronica” she smiled widely. “You seem to be very absorbed in watching me, do you surf?” I let out a light nervous laugh. Was this how fast people made conversation with others here? “No. Oh no. I’m not a surfer. I'm more of a beach towel, sunscreen type of girl. I just love the way you moved in the water. It was fascinating”

said Veronica, waving her hand in front of her face before grabbing her coffee that had not been touched since it was served. "Ah- Huh! I can smell, Veronica, something is troubling you. What is it!?" Hosey asked, her tone was concerning. "Do you remember Rebecca Jonas?" Veronica said to Hosey. "That brown head girl in the college, and the famous ex of your boyfriend?" Hosey replied with a frown on her face. "Yes, that same Rebecca Jonas!" Veronica said and leaned on her chair; simultaneously she no longer tried to mask her distress.

So Veronica then spoke calmly, “I have no care to prove my integrity over some petty besmirching of my name and disrespecting my crown.” Her voice was cold as she maintained a confident eye contact with the powerful people in the room. See, Ruby is a great actress but she could only play one role. An innocent, pitiful, kind damsel that is too good for all of this. However, that won't work all the time. Especially in a situation where they need claws and canines bared out as they aim to rip each other apart. And that is what Veronica was good at—trained and raised for such harsher roles.

Damn, that anatomy though! People take his pictures and upload them on their Snapchat and I*******m stories. I see Rita trying to put the doggie filter on him. Her friends peek at her phone and do Awwwww! "Good morning people of Damison Group." His authoritative voice roars in the hall. A high, intense shudder runs down my spine, making me sink more in my seat. His hoarse voice causes goosebumps to flare up on my arms. He seems really powerful, I can't act manly around him. I am probably wet.

The thought of that little bastard I adopted bargaining with her father’s life makes me want to lose my mind. She looks up at me suddenly, eyes glassy. “Do you think I’m worthy of being loved?” I set my glass down, move closer, and cup her face gently with both hands. “Cariño,” I say, voice low, “you are worth far more than that boy ever deserves. And tonight, I’m going to show you exactly how much.” She hesitates, then nods. “My name’s Veronica…” she starts, then laughs under her breath, a little breathy sound. “Veronica Harper. I’m—uh—23. Medical student at Horizon.”

I missed my old looks, but I did tell myself I had to do everything possible to stay under the radar. “What?! No way a little girl like her could beat me.” Luke gawked at me like he could not believe Mr. Griffen would even suggest such a thing. “Trust me. She has talent. It is clear by the way she stands. Her feet and legs are in perfect form to toss you flat on your back before you can blink. She could easily fight off mutants and be a superhero someday. Mark my words. That is if her smart mouth does not land her in bigger trouble first.” He smirked as he said.

gasped the arriving guests and the young women who filled the room. "Isn't she Beta Blake's daughter? She is so beautiful. Do you think she will become the next Luna of the White Hills Pack? She will make a perfect Luna," the gentle murmuring of the guests echoed in the ballroom, and Veronica smiled as she wore a tiny purple mask around her face. It was easy to recognize her as she let down her blonde hair to fall behind her back like she was a princess. She walked majestically in her striking purple shoes, drawing the eyes of the guests. Until my mother and Alpha David arrived, then the guests gasped in awe.

When he went jogging in grey sweatpants, I would go for a swim in a bikini. At dawn, he did ab workouts on the balcony. So I sat next to him and did core exercises. Neither of us was willing to give in. However, all that bravado on my end was an act. When I saw my bestie’s fox fae, I nearly drooled. Hers wasn’t “mistrained” like Fennrick. Sure, he was not as handsome, but his looks were still miles above any regular guy. My bestie, Lila Merrick, was completely hooked. It took me a few days before she agreed to meet me.
