The gale that erupted was no mere wind. It was a spear of compressed air and lightning, slicing clean through the fox’s chest. The creature howled, its body shattering into smoke and shards of light that scattered through the trees.

"To undo magic built on falsehood." The words land like stones in still water. Ripples of understanding spread through me. "The paternity spell." "Yes." Maison's voice is quiet but intense. "The ritual that claimed Ronan as the baby's father, it's built on a lie. The magic was forced, manipulated, corrupted.
