The mage’s hands lit with cruel power as he hurled spheres of dark flame toward him, one after another, until Vargr collapsed, body broken and breathless. The mage stepped forward, brushing soot from his cloak. "You are strong," he said quietly. "But strength without cunning is a fool’s pride." He placed a hand upon Vargr’s brow, murmured a spell beneath his breath, and forced him into slumber. _ "Jade, lend me your hand," Lady Miriam commanded, her voice low but urgent. The young man hurried to her side as she bent slightly, whispering something into his ear. With a swift adjustment to her gown, Miriam began a brisk walk from the hall, her expression troubled.

When they saw me, they looked like they wanted to run but couldn't. "It's going to be okay," I said delicately. Then to Sera, "What are you doing?" A look of panic crossed Sera's face before her eyes rolled back inside her head, and they were replaced with twin pools of red, like blood. "Sera isn't here right now," she said, and my light was extinguished. "I am Mizrabel, a sorceress from the land of Polonias. With her longing for friends and for power, this child was easy to coerce into wakening me. Now everyone in the land will pay, especially you. Jessie woke up Monday morning and for some reason, she felt off and her magic wasn't afraid to show it. It started with how she almost tripped because of a pillow that appeared out of nowhere on her way to the bathroom, then her magic setting the water too high and almost burning her skin off, then nicking herself with a knife with her magic bending the knife in her anger and finally, checking her bag before realizing her homework was on her reading table in homeroom.
