For a second I considered ignoring it but I ended up answering. “This is Alexander Voss.” Silence met my words as a few crackles followed then a distorted, cold and mechanical voice finally spoke. It’s the exact same voice from the messages that had appeared across my company’s systems. “Alexander Lucien Voss.” The distorted voice called out my full name, making my eyes widened in surprise.

The line was still connected. He pressed it against his ear again. “He–” “I was wondering when you’d finally call.” Aaron froze the moment the voice slithered through the other end of the line. His brows knitted sharply together, disbelief flashing in his eyes. That voice…Viktor? There was no way!

I spoke almost in a whisper, my voice somewhere in between shaky and firm. The line crackled with static and for a moment, there was nothing but silence on the other end. Then, a voice, low and creepy, filled the silence, sending chills through me. "Sapphire Samantha Smith," it whispered, a twisted mockery of my own name. "Welcome."

the voice said “Okay, boss, I will do that.” Then the line went dead.

These actions hardly fit the profile of someone who despised taking low-paying gigs. They revealed that, in reality, voice actors were paid much less than regular actors, with a few hundred dollars per episode being the norm. Working with actors who could not enunciate clearly meant that the lines had to be repeated over and over, which often led to late-night recording sessions. So I did. “Hello?? “ I spoke up, my voice hoarse as I felt my throat getting dry. “ ALRigHt. Go !! “ I heard a female voice from the other side of the line, but it wasn't her. My brows furrowed and silently waited to hear more to get any clue. “ Do YOu fiND Chris HoT?? “ The voice came and I gaped at the phone recognising it. Motherfucker!! What on earth is even happening there??

Couldn’t even unlock it properly. The car’s voice assistant pinged. “Call anyone,” I whispered, voice shaking. It responded in some garbled nonsense, like it didn’t understand English anymore. “Call… asshole.” My voice broke on the word. It rang. Please pick up. Please. The line connected. Silence.
