“No, we must get you and Vinny out of here.” “Stand the fuck down. I’m not leaving my mate,” I growled. A small amount of power came through my words which shocked me. Dad shivered a little and looked at me, perplexed at my sudden power. “Yes, Luna,” he murmured, although he looked severely unhappy about it. Wait, was that some kind of luna power? Did I just command him?

But now I leapt without reservation. Power surged up to meet my summons like a rising tidal wave. With a gasp I unleashed it at the backs of the oblivious guards, pouring every ounce of desperate strength into the raw command resonating in my voice: "Turn back! We have no quarrel with you tonight!" By some miracle, the torrent of power held. I swayed, caught in the sudden riptide as my gift exploded outward in a shimmering shockwave. Its reach was far greater than I expected, rippling outward to stir hearts and minds.

“So, what’s your reason?” “My daughter.” The words came before I could stop them. “She’s still with her father. I… lost custody.” Vivia’s eyes darkened, and for once, she didn’t joke. “That’s not a loss, babe. That’s a delay. You’ll get her back.” Her certainty was disarming. I looked down at my trembling hands, forcing strength into my voice. “I have to. I just don’t know how yet.” She tapped her nails on the table. “Well, for starters, you need power. Chris said with a grin. "So, if you ever change your mind, I should threaten you with death and our child and freeze your assets?" Paige questioned. "I can use those means to prevent you from changing your mind, but you can't because you don't have the power. You can't kill me or freeze my assets, turning me into a pauper," Chris said. Paige was infuriated, but Chris was speaking the truth. She really did not have that power. Though no one knew about the future, she did not possess that kind of strength right now.

I didn’t give them to you, I awakened what was already inside you.” “So you can’t give or take powers?” I asked. “Not in the way you think,” she said. “Power lives within you. It grows with your choices. It’s shaped by your pain, your strength, your love. I can guide you, but I cannot steal or swap what belongs to your soul.” I clenched my jaw, tears stinging my eyes again. “Then why even appear to us? Why show up if all you’re going to say is that you can’t help?”

"Victor wants to harness those abilities for his own gain, to reshape the world according to his vision." A chill ran down my spine as I considered the implications of Maya's words. I can see a bit of distaste in his expression. “Yes,” I say, trying not to sound doubtful. “And you have the gift.” He starts slowly walking around me as if examining me. “So it seems.” “So you are not sure then?” I shrug. “Dad tested her. She has it,” Victor says. “He tested me?” I ask. “Yes. When he asked you to kill Alexis. He used his power on you. You refused. The power only works on those without the power. Garret and I wouldn't be able to resist a command like that.”

His voice was low, careful, like he'd rehearsed it and forgotten half of it anyway. "Okay." He stepped closer, close enough that I had to tilt my head up to keep looking at him. "Today," he said.
