Scarlett (Second Edition)
There was a brief silence on the line before Keith finally spoke, his voice lower, more thoughtful.
“I saw the dark rider once, Scarlett,” he said, his words measured. “And it looks like you. At the time, I thought it was you—a possible future, one you might fall into. But hearing you now, this explanation makes more sense. I couldn’t believe you would ever become that person. My seer couldn’t make much of it back then, but now I’ll start preparing myself. Just in case.”
I exhaled, the weight of his confession pressing on me. “We have to face this thing together, Keith,” I said firmly. “We can’t do it alone. Individually, we won’t stand a chance.”
