I couldn’t help but look,” I added, forcing liveliness into my voice. But I could feel Wade’s gaze deepen on me. It was as if he was analyzing every word and movement I made. He was silent, but that silence felt more terrifying than shouting. “Limited editions, huh…” he said slowly and lowly, still not taking his eyes off me. “You seem… very interested.”

Bringing that man into my territory –” “I didn’t bring him!” I shot back. “How many times do I have to say it before it sinks in? I had no idea who he was!” “You expect me to believe that?” he sneered. “You just happen to strike up a conversation with the most dangerous Alpha alive, and I’m supposed to believe that was coincidence? If you think I’m a fool, think again.”

It shattered on impact with a heavy crack. Wade let out a muffled groan and toppled over, his half-man, half-wolf body twitching on the floor. He still refused to give up, arching his back as he tried to push through the shift, but the white wolves had him bound like a prisoner. Dad and I stood off to the side, watching closely as Wade thrashed in vain. After a long while, Wade burned through the last of his strength and went limp. When he finally lifted his head, his gaze landed on the white wolf crest emblazoned on Dad's cloak.

I settled on one that seemed interesting enough before struggling out of the chair and walking over to grab it. Settling back down with it, I looked at the cover. The Werewolf’s Progress. I snickered a little bit, it seemed like a spoof on The Pilgrim’s Progress. I felt the wolf’s presence emerge, but she stayed quiet. Like she was just observing with me. I hadn’t even realized I had fallen asleep, until I woke up to a knocking on the door. I looked down at the book that lay open on my lap. I had barely made it two pages in.

2 months later. I am sitting at the library reading my favorite book, Devil in the Winter by Lisa Kleypas. Cherry is not here yet. I have no idea what's going on with her. She has been quieter and jumpier. I hope she's okay; she never tells me anything anymore. She is always late for class and at home. I am starting to worry about her. Every time Wade is around and staring at her, she looks down, folding her hands by her side with a scared look on her face but also with a blush.
