The glowing yellow super moon shines bright over the mountains of the Mojave Desert. I feel like I’m on autopilot. Ava is fast asleep, her head rests on the window. I can’t stop thinking about her even though she’s right next to me. It pains me to think that beast wants to hurt her. I will always protect her.

She said, “I may not be your twin, but I am your sister. You can talk to me about anything.” “I’m fine, really.” She took a sip from the cup, hoping Maya wouldn’t ask further questions. “How many days do we have before hell lets loose?” Valeria brought the cup down to look at her sister. She hadn’t really thought about it since last night. Heck, no one was even excited about the blood moon. They were all scared. “Two days.” Her voice came out squeaky and she cleared her throat. “Two days.” Maya scooted closer and placed her hand on Valeria’s thigh. “You did your best. I’m certain father is very proud of you.”

She buried herself under her blankets, letting the silence consume her as she tried to ignore the pounding of her own heart. In the dimness of her room, as daylight faded and the shadows grew long, Channary clutched her pillow, sinking deeper into her shame. The Moon had betrayed her, left her vulnerable, her mate unclaimed. She was the Alpha’s daughter, Moon-Kissed and blessed, yet here she was, abandoned and marked only by the emptiness of broken promises.

A stirring of something ancient and primal. The full moon was rising, and I could feel its power calling to me. I was a werewolf, and I had done something. Something terrible. But what? As the moon rose higher in the sky, I felt my body begin to change. My senses grew sharper, my muscles stronger. And then, everything went black again. When I came to, I was standing in the middle of a forest, surrounded by trees that seemed to stretch up to the sky. The moon was still rising, casting a silver glow over everything.

The forest at night feels like another world. By daylight, I’ve walked these same trails with Lucas and even on my own. The trees have always been steady companions, tall and constant. But tonight, under the cloak of shadows and silver moonlight, they seem alive. Their branches reach like arms, their shadows crawl across the damp earth, and every whisper of wind feels like it’s speaking directly to me.

In fact, the moon was hovered over the forest, full and bright in its celestial beauty. Nina vaguely remembered someone had told her to walk towards the moon if she ever got lost. And that was exactly what she did. Nina walked towards the moon, hoping she could find civilization eventually. Or at least a sign of it. She was walking through the forest in a white gown. Her shoes were nowhere to be found. She was sure that she would eventually develop blisters on her feet if she kept walking without it.

I took a long and shakily drawn-out breath and whispered back to him, “I know”. I want that future. I look lovingly at Layla but she has turned her attention to the sky. Her brow is scrunched and eyes are squinting as she looks at something with confusion. I look up to see what she is looking at and I witness the most spectacular meteor shower. "It looks like the moon is crying," She says both in awe and sorrow. "Why do you say that?" I ask trying to see what she sees. "Come here and look," She pats the ground beside herself without taking her eyes off the night sky. I do as she asks and when I look up I see what she is seeing and my stomach falls to my feet.

The moonlight is barely piercing the canopy and I'm standing at the tree line, barefoot with blisters from wearing 6 inch stiletto heels, while the pack forms a loose semicircle behind me. "This," Margaret announces, gesturing to the uneven path ahead, "is the Moonlit Walk of Humility. The future Luna must walk barefoot through the sacred woods, guided only by the moonlight. The path is lined with thorns and stones, symbolizing the pain a Luna must endure for her pack."

As Chloe lingered in the glade, caught between the echoes of the past and the uncertainties of the future, she whispered to the moon, "Guide me through this, old friend." In the subsequent nights, Chloe's introspection deepened. The moon, a constant companion, illuminated the path forward. Each step became a dance with destiny.
