With a loud growl the phantom of the wolf charged towards the moon and swallowed it whole! *BOOM* Once the moon was swallowed the stars began to quake, and the space began to collapse. Kylie felt her head split open as a strong pain struck her head. She felt as though someone was hammering information into her head, information that was vital, yes, but painful to incorporate. As the space fell apart, the stars fled, leaving only the Sovereign Stars and the Chosen Stars behind. Those seven celestial bodies flickered faintly as though observing Kylie’s actions, before finally surrounding her, and providing her some cover. Kylie’s eyes were shut in pain, her brows furrowed in distress and hurt.

Not even a breath raised his chest. I turned away, satisfied with the turn of events. I roamed around the black space. More like a big, deep hole, I could see the sky. But it was unlike any sky I'd ever before experienced. Instead of bright white stars, flares of reds and oranges lit the expanse above my head. A low rustling brought my head down and my gaze searching out the deepest edges of the space. Almost as if the noise was waiting for something from me, I felt the weight of something settle on my shoulders. Something...other.

Noelle had not known what she had been talking about because she hadn't paid attention, until the day before school started again. Noelle had gone to the library to return an overdue novel that she did not have time to read because of all the studying and classes. As she'd walked past the bookshelf, she'd overheard some gossip. A few people had said that they'd heard someone sneak in the night before, and that by the next morning, there'd been two bags filled with stars on the table. That was the source of their gossip. Noelle knew it wasn’t true, because those stars aren’t visible when they are not up in the sky. The villagers have always known that too.

“I'm sorry.“ That was the best reply I could come up with. To my surprise, she didn't persist, but just let out a relieved sigh. “Dinner's ready. Let's eat.“ The mere thought of food made me remember that awful scene of Megan and the jerk. Being enlightened now on what the source of these foods were created this rumbling in my stomach and disgust in my throat. “I'm not hungry. Goodnight.“ I added quickly and walked away before she tries stopping me. Vivian was already stretched out on the wooden bed but quickly adjusted for me the second I walked into the room. I tried to get rid of the forlorn look on my face and wear a smile as I joined her on the bed. “Are you alright?“

And immediately, her whole body felt sparked, consumed by raging fire, like dry tinder sparked by lightning. Behind him, she saw the famous Piazza San Marco, toward the tall red campanile and the famous domed white basilica that was as exotic as anything in Cairo or Istanbul. The hour was late, the night was magic, the tourists had melted away into the mists, leaving the two of them alone, drenched in moonlight beside the water.

I tried to bite the one on my left. He backhanded me across the face without even looking. My head snapped to the side, and stars exploded behind my eyes. For a moment, everything went grey. Then the world swam back into focus, and we were at the door. The guard pushed it open. Sunlight. So much sunlight, after days in the dark cellar. It blinded me, seared my eyes, made tears stream down my cheeks. I blinked desperately, trying to see, trying to orient myself. The courtyard was packed. Hundreds of wolves, maybe more. They lined the walls, filled the balconies, crowded every inch of space. And they were all staring at me.

Ash still drifted in the air like black snow, settling over ruins that had once been Dawnspire’s proud walls. Serenya’s lungs burned with smoke and power as she struggled to hold herself aloft. Her new wings—woven of starlight and fire—shivered with exhaustion, dimming at the edges. Another real thing — something humans can’t touch, can’t ruin. I know someone’s standing beside me. I noticed the second he walked over, but I don’t bother looking. He smells nice, clean, warm — but the moon has all my attention. The stars, too. Maybe it’s the freedom of it all that keeps me staring. “You know one fact about the stars?” I ask, still watching the sky. When he doesn’t answer, I keep going, my voice quiet but steady. “Most of them might already be dead.” The words hang there between us. “Their light just hasn’t stopped reaching us yet. It’s kind of sad, isn’t it? How something can be gone and still look alive.”

Lashe asked and Ibukun shrugged. “I read too many Chinese novels these days, let’s pretend I actually do” Ibukun replied and Lashe laughed. “I think I do” Lashe said and Ibukun hissed as she smiled. Lashe looked at the stars and smiled. “What did you say was the reason why a star cannot shine brighter than the other the other day?” Lashe asked.

The same hill where the Dreamer had once said goodbye. The same hill where a new future had begun. She looked upward. Watching constellations shimmer. The Heart's constellation still glowed brightly. The Keeper's open hand remained visible. Symbols of stories that would never be forgotten. Nova smiled. Then pointed toward one distant star. "Mom?" Lyra looked up from beside her. "Yes?" Nova tilted her head. "Do stories ever really end?" The question hung in the air. Carried by the wind. Carried by memory. Lyra stared at the stars for a long moment.
