They got the call and made the overnight trek from Easthaven." The four agents each held a gleaming silver briefcase as they approached Liam, their faces a mix of eagerness and anxiety. They were well aware of the legendary status of the Commander-in-chief of Pendragon, and the fact that they were chosen to aid him in this mission had them on edge. Without wasting a moment, they boarded a private jet that very night, bound for Drunham City.

"Move fast. Move quiet." They navigated the narrow, suspended walkways that crisscrossed the massive void of the silo. Below them, a mountain of grain plunged into darkness. They were halfway across when the heavy metal door at the far end of the catwalk clanged open. Three Imperial Enforcers stepped out. They were Vespera’s new breed—clad in lightweight, matte-gray tactical armor, their faces obscured by polarized visors equipped with night-vision optics. They carried silenced, compressed-air kinetic rifles.

In the highest council chamber, an elder mage rose from meditation. “Border fluctuation detected,” he muttered. Then the wards screamed. Silver light erupted skyward as the first barrier engaged, an enormous dome of ward lattice sealing the academy grounds. Defensive sigils burned bright along every tower, drawing on centuries of accumulated magic. Outside the walls, the forest split open. And from it emerged the Del Imperium. Thirty-one thousand strong. An ocean of shifting forms, wolves, hybrids, armored warriors in disciplined formation. Banners snapped violently in the wind, crowned wolf devouring a star.
