My wolf’s voice is low, almost concerned now. Distance is wrong. “I feel that,” I whisper. The warmth flares again. Stronger this time. And suddenly the bond stretches tighter— Like something is pulling from both ends. From me. From Kael. From the tiny life between us. My knees weaken slightly and I brace myself against the window. “Hey… hey,” I murmur softly. “It’s okay.” But the warmth doesn’t settle. It grows. Faster. Brighter. The air in the room shifts.

I asked her and she gazed up at me and the room felt silent with me and her staring at each other. I am serious right now. I want to know how well she can make me love others, although I have no idea if I was going to, or how long it would last, but I want to give it a try. I have been so cold and locked up in my shell for so long. I want to try it all out. I want to also feel what others felt, even if it was all going to hurt me someday. Still, even for a moment, I want to feel warmth again.

I turned in the cocoon of warmth around me, trying to burrow into it. It felt safe and comforting, as if it stood between me and something unpleasant. I pushed closer into the heat as it wrapped around me. "If you keep moving, I'm going to assume you're trying to get something in you." The warmth moved but it felt as if it was pulling away. "Don't move." I grabbed the warmth, stopping its escape. "You're giving me orders?" Something tickled my cheeks as it pressed against my face.
