His cloak hung from the pelts of grey wolves, soaked in whatever power lived in the city itself. “Warlord Karn,” Vane growled, bowing his head a fraction. “I bring the King’s true bloodline. The Princess Elara.”

Paul added, obviously uncomfortable with the tears. I covered my whole face as I hunched over slightly, sobbing into them. A sign of an elite warrior, one that had been trained and passed their tests, was a tattoo. It spread from shoulder, across the back and to the other shoulder. Each one was slightly different, tailored to the warrior but within a pack, there was always a specific design. Birchpelt asked, eyes flashing as she looked at Birdpaw seriously. Surprise swept through Birdpaw at the mention of her warrior assessment. For the first time, her paws felt numb as the snow underneath her. She didn't know what to say. The other apprentices hadn't even earned their warrior names, yet, and, Birchpelt was expecting her to pass her own assessment.

"Catalyn of the Red Blood Pack, you have proven yourself once more, and finally, we believe you have all the qualities to become one of our warriors, the first ever female to become a warrior," he said, his voice filled with pride. I rose to my feet, a wide smile on my face. The people applauded; they all had the same look of pride in their eyes.
