He moved, smirking, and in the next instant, I heard a mighty growl behind him. A shape began to emerge, vast and glowing. A dragon with crystal shining shells. Its electric blue eyes seized me on the spot.

“Engage and isolate.” My dragon dives. The wind howls past my ears as the battlefield rushes upward to meet us. I choose the first hostile dragon I see—dark scaled, larger than most, circling toward Aurelion’s position. The fool never even notices me. I slam into him from above. The impact rattles my teeth. My claws tear across his wing joint before he can react, and the dragon screams as the membrane splits beneath my strike. He drops out of the sky in a spiral. I do not bother watching him fall.

As the realization that this massive dragon was most likely Murdok Rori grabbed onto the claw still holding her, and she opened her mouth to speak when the sound of Henry’s laughter pulled her attention away. The book was now floating above his hand and as he chanted Rori watched as translucent, almost glowing bones formed into an armor around him and Rori gasped. Henry pointed his hand toward the massive dragon and a zap of lightning shot from his palm straight into the shoulder of the dragon, causing Murdok to scream in pain, but he did not loosen his grasp on Rori. Henry fired a few more bolts that all hit Murdok and Rori couldn’t stand by and watch her stepfather kill the man that saved

Liam drops, rolls, and smashes the guard’s kneecap, grabbing the fallen halberd and swinging it in a perfect arc that sweeps two more away from Zayla.
