Jasper’s back became a door; his hands became a language everyone could read. Smoke chased us a little and then decided it had better things to do. The tunnel turned once, twice. I felt the curve in the mark, the way it warms at the compass point named Out. We emerged at the fringe of the north pines, farther than anyone would guess unless they knew a Holdfast girl with a thread had told the stones to remember her forever.

Then she opened the diary and turned to the next page. _____ Episode 53 – Lost in the Woods The GPS had died with a pathetic electronic sigh twenty minutes ago, and Hallie’s knuckles were bone-white on the steering wheel. The narrow, unpaved road, promised as a scenic shortcut through the Blackpine Forest, had devolved into little more than a muddy track swallowed by towering, ancient pines. Twilight was bleeding the last of the color from the sky, casting long, sinister shadows that seemed to reach for her little sedan. A low-hanging branch, unseen in the gloom, scraped against the roof with a sound like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Then: “Follow me.” Caitlin and Aiden walked slowly, side-by-side, along the outskirts of the island, right along the water’s edge. Caitlin was struck by the tranquility and beauty of the place. The island was covered in a lush, green grass, dotted with Italian Cypress trees, and, in the distance, lined with small cemeteries. Water was visible from everywhere. They walked slowly in the silence. Caitlin began to wonder if Aiden would ever talk. Finally, she could take it no longer. She had so many burning questions she needed to ask.

They nod at my answer and give me another sad smile before placing a kiss on either side of my head. "If you don't mind I would like to take a nap, I'm exhausted" I say to them with a small smile "Okay, yell if you need anything" my mom says before exiting with my mother Ugh. This day went nothing like I had hoped it would, but Ava was right. I was bound to find out about their secrecy affairs sooner or later. I let out a sigh as I kick my shoes off and slide underneath my blanket. Maybe I can sleep this away. -

“All I see is a blank page. I think only you can see the writing because of your mother’s blood.” Bree lovingly caressed the pages. Without Grayson, she wouldn’t have found the secret lying in between the pages of the book only she could see. But how in the world is she going to read them? Oh, mom. Help me find the words. “There’s a coven residing in town. I can introduce you if you want. Maybe one of them can help you tap into your bloodline and uncover any hidden gifts.” And there it was. Help just landed in her lap.

The same one I feel under mine. And then there’s Kai. His presence hums next to me, powerful and quiet. Every so often, his hand brushes mine, and my skin tingles, aching for the comfort I keep denying myself. I can’t let myself reach for him. Not after what happened. Not when I nearly scorched the world around me with one uncontrolled flare of moonfire. We pass under the archway into the Whispering Pines. At least that's what i heard them call it. The air starts to feel different as we walk further.

She could feel it. **** Pov: Aiden. Meanwhile: Deep Within the Pines Aiden stood over a large map pinned across an old wooden table. Wolves—some in partial shift, some fully clothed—surrounded him in the cabin tucked into the hills beyond Fernmere. He was silent as one of his scouts approached and placed a device in his palm. “She’s rallying them,” the scout said. “Not like Asher—with speeches and power—but like a spark. They’re listening.” Aiden activated the playback.

I rolled my eyes with amusement as I led them across a barren landscape with dead trees and no foliage. “Be careful of the thicker tree trunks,” I warned. “Many of them have portals that can suck you in if you get too close.” “Perhaps it would be a good idea to walk in a single line behind you since you know where to walk,” Anton suggested. “Good idea,” Nora said as she fell into step behind Anton who, in turn, fell into step behind me. “Stay close,” I said. “When we get through here, we’ll be able to spread out again.”

There is no schedule for these chapters as I am going to take a break until mid-April when I return with Book 5 of the Alpha Series - King Alejandro: Return Of Her Cold-Hearted Alpha.
